Our marine remit

Lookoutraplunz is an independent information website for people who want to understand underwater landscapes before deciding how to visit them.

Habitat first, itinerary second

We begin with how a landscape works: coral as living structure, lagoons as connected water systems and caves as overhead environments with strict training limits. Destination names provide context, not a ranking, a booking recommendation or a guarantee of access.

Our intended reader is an ocean-curious traveller, including a first-time snorkeller or a recreational diver considering a different environment. The guides keep these activities distinct. Curiosity is welcome; an assumption that every environment should be entered is not.

What informs the guides

We link to public resources from scientific agencies, protected-area authorities, conservation programmes and recognised diving-safety organisations. Sources are placed near relevant claims or at the end of a guide so readers can continue their research.

These links do not imply endorsement or affiliation. Lookoutraplunz is not affiliated with NOAA, Divers Alert Network, Green Fins, UNESCO or the park authorities referenced here. We do not claim original field surveys, formal site inspections or real-time environmental monitoring.

What the visuals mean

Marine-object images are conceptual illustrations. Reef forms, lagoon cutaways, equipment studies and cave models simplify ideas; they are not destination photographs. They are not species-identification references, navigation charts, complete equipment lists or evidence of present conditions.

Where our advice stops

We do not provide certification, individual medical advice, emergency coordination or a personal dive plan. A page cannot evaluate your fitness, skills, equipment or the current at a particular entry point. Local rules and conditions can change, and the relevant authority’s current instructions take priority over general travel reading.

Overhead environments require appropriate specialist training. We explain why they differ from open water without publishing a procedural cave-entry guide.

Corrections and transparency

If a statement is unclear, a source has moved or a local rule needs attention, send the editorial desk a specific correction. Include the page, the passage and a reliable reference where possible. Do not send sensitive medical records, identity documents or precise locations of vulnerable wildlife.

We do not sell tours or accept bookings through this site. An external resource remains under its publisher’s control, and inclusion is not a promise about a commercial service. Read our usage terms for the site’s general limitations.

Our guiding question: Can this information help someone make a more informed decision while leaving the habitat undisturbed?
